Volunteer Leadership Program – Applications Open

Overview

The Australian Institute for Disaster Resilience (AIDR) has announced the Perth dates for the Volunteer Leadership Program (VLP) – an immersive residential two-day program for emergency sector volunteers with the aspiration and aptitude to take on leadership positions within the emergency services.

The VLP provides an introduction to Volunteer Leadership and Management. It will be attended by emergency services and not-for-profit volunteers who are involved in emergency response and recovery.

DFES is viewing this course as an opportunity to provide an additional development opportunity for young emerging leaders within the volunteer workforce. It is in addition to volunteer leadership training provided by the Academy. Attendance at the training will be recognised by the Academy but will not be accredited.

The VLP will be held in Perth from 6 April 2018 to 8 April 2018.

The costs of the residency program are covered by AIDR with DFES covering costs associated with transport and the upgrade to a single room if required.

Nominations

DFES is seeking nominations from emerging volunteer emergency services leaders under the age of 30.

Application process

  1. Those people who are interested (applicants) are to access the AIDR website page for the Perth course to read the details and obtain the organisation endorsement form.
Applicants contact their DFES Manager, or Local Government Manager if applicable, to complete the top portion of the organisation endorsement form.
  2. DFES Manager or Local Government Manager to email a copy of the completed form and a brief supporting statement to CommandAcademic@dfes.wa.gov.au. This statement will be used to prioritise applications and should address the following:
    a. Is the applicant under 30 years of age?
    b. Does the applicant show promise as a leader within the emergency services?
    c. How will the applicant’s attendance support succession planning within their BGU?
  3. Applicant returns to AIDR website page for the Perth course to register and upload the form. Start by clicking on the ‘Register’ button.
  4. AIDR will provide application details to Professional Development for agency prioritisation.

It is important to note that places in the course are limited and while DFES will prioritise attendees, AIDR makes the final decision about who will attend.

Applications close on Friday 23 February 2018.
